Der Autor beschreibt das dunkelste Jahrzehnt der Donauschwaben an Theiß und Donau. Er geht nicht nur auf die Geschichte dieses seit 200 Jahren in der Batschka ansässigen Kolonistenvolkes ein, sondern schildert auch, wie sich viele seiner Landsleute von Emissären des Dritten Reiches verführen ließen und sich freiwillig zur Waffen-SS meldeten. 1944 kam mit dem Einmarsch der Tito-Partisanen der Umschwung. In zahlreichen Ortschaften wurden Männer liquidiert, andere und junge Frauen wurden zur Zwangsarbeit in die Sowjetunion deportiert, Kinder und Alte kamen ins Konzentrationslager, wo Zehntausende zugrunde gingen. Ab 1947 gelang dann vielen die Flucht über Ungarn in den Westen. Der Autor selbst konnte mit Mutter und Geschwistern nach Österreich entkommen. Sein Fazit: Wir Donauschwaben waren nicht nur Opfer, wir hatten auch Täter unter uns. Mit CD: Proben der Sprache der Filipowaer
