Die Arbeit untersucht die annähernd vollständige deutsch-, englisch- und französischsprachige Sekundärliteratur und die Komponistenkommentare zu drei bekannten Werken der europäischen Nachkriegsavantgarde. Mithilfe der Software MAXQDA wurde eine qualitative und quantitative Methoden verbindende Metaanalyse durchgeführt, um herauszustellen, worüber in den Texten wie viel gesprochen wird, welche Begriffe dabei eine besondere Rolle spielen und was bspw. zu den Themen Wahrnehmung und Bedeutung gesagt wird. In Analysen einzelner Begriffs- und Themenfelder werden u.a. die zeitabhängige Häufigkeit bestimmter Begriffe herausgearbeitet und Häufigkeitsdifferenzen bezogen auf einzelne Werke interpretiert. So wurde z.B. festgestellt, dass die Begriffe bzw. Wortfelder Komplexität, Extreme, Gewalt und Macht durchgehend eine große Rolle spielen, andere wie Welt oder Schönheit fallen dadurch auf, dass sie in manchen Jahrzehnten kaum oder nicht gebraucht werden. Die sich über einen Zeitraum von 60 Jahren erstreckenden Diskurse und deren Argumente werden anhand dieser einige überraschende Ergebnisse liefernden Sprachanalyse für die einzelnen Werke und schließlich werkübergreifend diskutiert.

This dissertation examines the nearly complete German, English and French secondary literature on, and the composers’ commentary on, three renowned works of the European postwar avant-garde. With the aid of the software MAXQDA, I undertook a meta-analysis combining qualitative and quantitative methods to discover what the texts address and in which amounts, which terms play important roles in them, and what they say about subjects like perception and meaning. I analyse individual terms and topics and interpret their significance based on how often or how seldom each of them arises in the texts in relation to specific works over time. For example, terms or semantic fields such as complexity, extremes, violence and power continuously play a prominent role, while others like world or beauty are rarely used or not used at all during some decades. I discuss the discourses and their arguments, which extend over sixty years now, based on analysis producing some surprising results – both for the single works and ultimately across works.
