Gegenstand der vorliegenden Arbeit ist das Buch Mudakkirat al-Imam Muhammad Abduh: Sira datiya des ägyptischen Schriftstellers und Journalisten Tahir at-Tanahi (st. 1967). Mit diesem Werk beabsichtigte at-Tanahi, anhand von Tagebuchaufzeichnungen und zu verschiedenen Zeiten und Anlässen entstandenen Artikeln eine konzise Biographie Muhammad Abduhs vorzulegen, die die bejahende und aktive Rolle Abduhs an der Revolte des Ahmad Urabi 1882 gegen die britische Besatzung beweisen sollte. Im Ergebnis ist at-Tanahis Werk allerdings keine ausgewogene Darstellung und Kommentierung der Schriften Abduhs, sondern das Musterbeispiel einer den Zeitgeist widerspiegelnden historischen Konstruktion im Zuge der Revolution der Freien Offiziere von 1952. Quellenkritisch geht Christopher Radler der Frage nach, mit welchen Mitteln at-Tanahi sein Ziel zu erreichen versuchte, Abduh zum Revolutionär zu stilisieren, der doch gemeinhin als Reformer gesehen wird. Zu diesem Zweck wird nicht nur die ägyptische Geschichte aus der Sicht Abduhs nachgezeichnet und dessen Darstellung kritisch gewürdigt, sondern auch aufgezeigt, wie at-Tanahi sich diese Sichtweise zu eigen macht und für seine Zwecke manipuliert - und dabei nicht einmal vor dem Mittel der Quellenfälschung zurückschreckt
