Der erfolgreiche Berliner Schriftsteller (zuletzt "Bildnis der Mutter als junge Frau": BA 11/06) wagt thematisch und erzähltechnisch immer wieder überraschende Neuansätze, so auch in diesem biografischen Roman über Konrad Zuse (1910-1995), den Erfinder des modernen Computers. In einer Juli-Nacht des Jahres 1994 erzählt der berühmt gewordene Ingenieur und Unternehmer einem jungen Journalisten sein Leben, das von 2 Leidenschaften bestimmt war: Von der Hingabe an die Forschung und von seiner platonischen Liebe zu einer längst verstorbenen Naturwissenschaftlerin und Tochter Lord Byrons. Der Konrad Zuse des Romans vergleicht sich in seiner Bessenheit als Forscher immer wieder mit "Faust", und mit diesem Kunstgriff gelingt es Delius, in der Geschichte eines genialen Erfinders zugleich die Verantwortung der Wissenschaft für die Gesellschaft zu spiegeln, aber auch die Verluste an Menschlichkeit in einer "computerisierten" Gesellschaft zum Thema zu machen. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Ein Monolog über knapp 300 Seiten wirkt auf Dauer zwangsläufig monoton. Breite Empfehlung.
