Content: Asset management standards are crucial for building trust between investors and capital market experts. The issue of corporate governance has been thrown into the spotlight by the disastrous collapse of Enron and the implications for the industry. The proposed standards are relevant for the entire fund industry, regulators, providers of pension plans and portfolio managers. Produced in association with the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies, this book aims to provide a well-founded basis for development of the content of asset management standards in the UK, the US and the EU. It contains a detailed overview of the current position, outlines planned developments and discusses underlying problems.

Series Statement: Developments in ophthalmology Vol. 35
Content: Understanding cataract risk factors is a vital topic in preventative medicine and offers hope to the multitude of people in the world who cannot be aided by an intraocular lens implantation. In the multifaceted process of cataract development ultraviolet radiation is one of the important risk factors. This publication focuses on clinical studies, epidemiologic data as well as experimental approaches to ultraviolet radiation and its effects on the lens. Further articles discuss the cataract epidemiology and the biochemistry of the lens. In addition lens research in the 20th century is evaluated with regard to methods and results. The book is dedicated to Professor K. Sasaki from the University of Ishikawa (Japan) and his research over the last twenty years. Ophthalmologists in practice as well as those involved in lens and cataract research or interested in the mechanisms and the pathogenesis of lens opacification in old age will find a wealth of information in this volume. Likewise, it will be essential to physicians working in public health services, environmental medicine, and those concerned with eye damage caused by radiation

Content: In these notes we study time-dependent partial differential equations and their numerical solution. The analytic and the numerical theory are developed in parallel. For example, we discuss well-posed linear and nonlinear problems, linear and nonlinear stability of difference approximations and error estimates. Special emphasis is given to boundary conditions and their discretization. We develop a rather general theory of admissible boundary conditions based on energy estimates or Laplace transform techniques. These results are fundamental for the mathematical and numerical treatment of large classes of applications like Newtonian and non-Newtonian flows, two-phase flows and geophysical problems.

Content: Hans Jacob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (ca. 1621-1676) is the most significant (and still readable) author of seventeenth-century German novels. His 〈I〉Abenteuerlicher Simplicius Simplicissimus〈/I〉remains the one German novel of its time that has attained the stature of "world literature": its unique mix of violent action and solitary reflection, its superlative humor, its realistic portrayalof a peasant turned soldier turned hermit has made it the longest-running bestseller in German literature. Read by students and scholars in comparative literature, history, and German, and by those interested in the development of the picaresque novel in Europe, the work and its "Continuations" have increasingly occupied scholars around the world, who have in recent years shown it to be a work ofsubtle structure and characterization, bearing the imprint of the most advanced political thinking of the time, and showing the influences of some of the most significant works of world literature, including Cervantes' 〈I〉Don Quixote〈/I〉 and Barclay's 〈I〉Argenis〈/I〉. This volume of essays by leading Grimmelshausen scholars from Germany, the United States, and England provides analyses of significant topics in his life and works, including questions of genre, structure, satire, allegory, narratology, political thought, religion, morality, humor, realism, and mortality.〈BR〉 Contributors: Christoph E. Schweitzer, Italo Michele Battafarano, Klaus Haberkamm, Rosmarie Zeller, Andreas Solbach, Dieter Breuer, Lynne Tatlock, Peter Hess, Shannon Keenan Greene, and Alan Menhennet.〈BR〉〈BR〉 KarlF. Otto is Professor of German at the University of Pennsylvania and has written extensively on German Baroque literature.
