Series Statement: Progress in neurological surgery Vol. 19
Content: 'Guiding Neurosurgery' by Evidence provides its readers with a succinct review of contemporary neurosurgical practice when evaluated by evidence-based medicine standards. It begins with an introduction of the concept and principles of evidence-based medicine. The subsequent chapters address the topics of brain tumor epidemiology, benign adult brain tumors, pediatric neurosurgery, endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, lumbar spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, trauma, and the treatment of chronic pain disorders by neurostimulation. Each chapter summarizes the available literature and grades it according to the quality of the evidence. In addition, this book highlights not only the usefulness of evidence-based medicine in neurosurgical practice, but also its limitations with regard to neurosurgical disorders that are frequently rare and therefore impossible to evaluate in randomized clinical trials.Neurological surgeons and neurologists, both practicing physicians and residents in training, will find in this publication valuable information about the practice of the different neurosurgical subspecialties by evidence-based medicine standards
Note: a succinct review of contemporary neurosurgery

Content: The obesity crisis has affected many nations. It is also one of the factors listed as a contributing cause to the COVID-19 fatalities. The common tendency is to blame people's dietary choices and sedentary habits. Yet, it can also be argued that social inequity and poor urban planning practices have largely contributed to a lack of active lifestyles. Low-density suburban sprawl, long commutes, food deserts, diminishing green areas are some aspects that have led to reduced physical activity among residents of all ages. The book illustrates the decline of community planning for healthy living and outlines measures that can be reintroduced to foster active lifestyles

Content: Benjamin Pollock argues that Franz Rosenzweig's The Star of Redemption is devoted to a singularly ambitious philosophical task: grasping 'the All' - the whole of what is - in the form of a system. In asserting Rosenzweig's abiding commitment to a systematic conception of philosophy, this book breaks rank with the assumptions about Rosenzweig's thought that have dominated recent scholarship. Indeed, the Star's importance is often claimed to lie precisely in the way it opposes philosophy's traditional drive for systematic knowledge and upholds instead a 'new thinking' attentive to the existential concerns, the alterity, and even the revelatory dimension of concrete human life. Pollock shows that these very innovations in Rosenzweig's thought are in fact to be understood as part and parcel of the Star's systematic program. But this is only the case, Pollock claims, because Rosenzweig approaches philosophy's traditional task of system in a radically original manner.
