Die vorliegende Arbeit entstand in den 80er-Jahren, also während jener Phase der Computerentwieklung, die oftmals mit dem Begriff "Siegeszug des PCs" apostrophiert wird. Entstanden die ersten Entwürfe noch auf dem Textverarbeitungsprogramm eines Großrechners in der technischen Abgeschiedenheit eines Terminalraums, so wurden die letzten Arbeiten auf einem aktentaschengroßen Laptop in der privaten Abgeschiedenheit der eigenen vier Wände durchgeführt. Die Entwicklung von Arbeitsstil und eingesetztem Arbeitsmittel dokumentieren dabei einen Prozeß der Veralltäglichung von Technik, der in einer vergleichsweise kurzen Zeitspanne sowohl die Arbeitswelt als auch die Privatsphäre durchdrungen hat. Überschätzungen, Aufgeregtheiten und Visionen in Bezug auf die Auswirkungen des Computereinsatzes sind bedingt durch die Alltäglichkeit des Einsatzes und die mittlerweile gemachten Erfahrungen sowohl bei - eher geisteswissenschaftlich orientierten - Kritikern als auch bei - eher technikwissenschaftlichen - Befürwortern abgeschwächt und haben auf beiden Seiten einer differenzierten und wohl auch realistischeren Beurteilung Platz gemacht. Nichtsdestotrotz ist der wissenschaftliche Beobachter gerade angesichts der beobachtbaren Universalität des Computereinsatzes gefordert, die Fragen nach dem Charakter des Technischen, nach dem Verhältnis von Technischem und Sozialem in ihrer ganzen Breite nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren. Geht man davon aus, daß die Computertechnologie in einem Maße gesellschaftliche und soziale Beziehungen durchdringt, die man bei älteren Technologien nicht kannte, dann kann die Beantwortung der Frage nach einem adäquaten Verstandnis der technischen Entwicklung nur in einem interdisziplinären Diskurs erfolgen. Einem solchen Ansatz fühlt sich die vorliegende Arbeit verpflichtet
