Am 13. November 1975 ist Jürgen Rödig als Opfer eines Verkehrsunfalls gestorben. Er war vier Wochen vorher 33 Jahre alt geworden. Mit 29 Jahren habilitiert, war er ein Jahr später nach Gießen berufen worden, wo er knapp drei Jahre als Ordinarius für Bürgerliches Recht, Zivilprozeßrecht, Rechtstheorie und Rechtsinformatik gewirkt hat. Schon bald nach dem Tod von Jürgen Rödig wurde im Freundes- und Kollegenkreis der Wunsch laut, eine Gedächtnisschrift für den so unfaßlich früh Verstorbenen herauszugeben. Ihm als Lehrer, Gießener Kollege und Freund verbunden, sind wir dieser Anregung gefolgt. Dabei war uns bewußt, daß es ungewöhnlich ist, durch eine Gedächtnisschrift einen Wissenschaftler zu ehren, der so jung gestorben ist. Wir hielten es gleichwohl nicht für unangemessen: Jürgen Rödig war trotz seiner Jugend ein so ungewöhnlicher Gelehrter, und sein wissenschaftliches Werk ist in seiner denkerischen Kraft und seiner umfassend von neuen Ansätzen geprägten Originalität so außerordentlich, daß wir meinten, eine Gedächtnisschrift käme diesem Manne zu. Mit ihr soll darauf hingewiesen werden, welcher Verlust die künftige Rechtswissenschaft getroffen hat. Die vier Abteilungen der Gedächtnisschrift knüpfen thematisch an die wichtigsten Forschungsgebiete Jürgen Rödigs an. Daß die Gesetzgebungstheorie an der Spitze steht, entspricht Rodigs wissenschaftlichen Interessen in den letzten beiden Jahren seines Lebens. Er setzte sich das hohe - und doch ganz praktisch verstandene - Ziel rationalerer Gesetzgebung. Mit mehreren wichtigen Publikationen wie durch die Gründung der "Internationalen Gesellschaft für Gesetzgebungstheorie" begann er es zu verfolgen.
