Dieses Buch befasst sich mit einem nur wenig bekannten Spezialgebiet der Kriegsmarine im Zweiten Weltkrieg - mit den Blockadebrechern. Aufgabe der Blockadebrecher war es, in geheimen Missionen die Sperrgürtel der Alliierten zu durchbrechen und vor allem kriegswichtige Materialien wie Öl, Zinn, Bauxit, Walöl, Zellulose, Stahl und Kautschuk sicher anzulanden. Ab 1941 wurden die deutschen Handelsschiffe für die Versorgung mit lebenswichtigen Gütern nahezu fahrplanmäßig eingesetzt. Die Deutschen begannen einen direkten Schifffahrtsdienst zwischen Japan und Europa aufzubauen. Die schiffe dafür mussten schnell und groß sein, damit es sich lohnte; sie mussten enorme Strecken zurücklegen können, ohne "bunkern" zu müssen. Die alliierten Marinen, die mit ihren Schiffen ihre Geleitzüge zu schützen die die deutsche Kriegsmarine zu bekämpfen hatten, brachten auch die Blockadebrecher in große Bedrängnis. (AUT)
