Ihre neue CD widmen die Hilliards einem Programm mit selten zu hörenden englischen a-cappella-Kompositionen aus der 2. Hälfte des 16. Jahrhunderts. Thomas Tallis, Christopher Tye und John Sheppard gehören zu den herausragenden Musikern einer konfliktträchtigen Epoche, die das "goldene" elisabethanische Zeitalter vorbereitet. Nachdem sich Heinrich VIII. von Rom abgewandt hatte, lösten die Veränderungen der kirchlichen Liturgie einen Schub kompositorischer Neuerungen aus. Immer stärker rückte die sinnfällige Vertonung des Textes ins Zentrum des Interesses. Der Prozess führte schließlich zur Öffnung der englischen Sakralmusik gegenüber den zeitgenössischen Entwicklungen auf dem Kontinent. (www.jpc.de)
