Content: The impact of Communism on the twentieth century was massive, equal to that of the two world wars. Content: F. Uekötter hatte eine Geschichtslosigkeit ökologischer Bewegungen konstatiert ("Am Ende der Gewissheiten", ID-A 46/11). Dem hat der amerikanische (Umwelt-)Historiker Zelko mit einer historischen Analyse von Greenpeace überzeugend entgegengearbeitet. Dabei verbindet er Anfänge, Entwicklung und Internationalisierung von Greenpeace mit den sozialen, politischen und ökologischen Bewegungen seit den 1970er-Jahren (USA, Kanada). Die deutsche Ausgabe enthält ein Kapitel über die Anfänge von Greenpeace Deutschland. "Make It a Green Peace!" (Original) verweist auf die ersten Aktivisten, die dem radikalen Pazifismus anhingen. Einflüsse der Gegenkultur, der Neuen Linken, der Ökologiebewegung kamen hinzu. Das flüssig geschriebene, materialreiche Buch ist voller Geschichten über die gewaltfreien direkten Aktionen, aber auch, auf der Basis von Interviews, über die "couragierten Charaktere, Intrigen, Liebschaften und internen Kämpfe" des Elitekaders (vgl. D. MacTaggart: "Rainbow Warrior", BA 2/02) der hierarchisch strukturierten, international agierenden Organisation. Kein Vergleichstitel. Unbedingt empfohlen! (2)
