Content: In A Companion to Priesthood and Holy Orders in the Middle Ages , a select group of scholars explain the rise and function of priests and deacons in the Middle Ages. Though priests were sometimes viewed through the lens of function, the medieval priesthood was also defined ontologically-those marked by God who performed the sacraments and confected the Eucharist. While their role grew in importance, medieval priests continued to fulfil the role of preacher, confessor and provider of pastoral care. As the concept of ordination changed theologically the practices and status of bishops, priests and deacons continued to be refined, with many of these medieval discussions continuing to the present day.

Content: In Hebrew Lexical Semantics and Daily Life in Ancient Israel , Kurtis Peters hitches the world of Biblical Studies to that of modern linguistic research. Often the insights of linguistics do not appear in the study of Biblical Hebrew, and if they do, the theory remains esoteric. Peters finds a way to maintain linguistic integrity and yet simplify cognitive linguistic methods to provide non-specialists an access point. Content: Since the publication of Joseph Conrad's "Author's Note" (1920) to A Set of Six (1908), readers have been aware that the plot for the Napolonic tale "The Duel" derived from an existing account. What has been unknown till now is the large number of venues in which that account variously appeared. This volume traces the tale's fascinating genealogy and the immediate contemporary source that inspired Conrad's 1907 story. A transcription of the story's typescript-manuscript sheds light on the story's development. Conrad's "The Duel": Sources/Text will interest several readerships. Content: Teaching, Responsibility, and the Corruption of Youth explores the concept and practice of responsibility in education and teaching in the new post-Cold War era after the long run of globalization and liberal internationalism has been disrupted by the rise of populism, anti-immigration sentiments and new forms of terrorism. The old liberal values and forms of tolerance have been questioned. Responsibility is a complex concept in our lives with moral, social, financial and political aspects. It embraces both legal and moral forms, and refers to the state of being accountable or answerable for one's actions implying a sense of obligation associated with being in a position of authority such as a parent, teacher or guardian having authority over children. First used with schools in 1855, the concept's legal meaning was only tested in the 1960s when student conduct, especially when materially affecting the rights of other students, was not considered immune by constitutional guarantees of freedom. This volume investigates the questions left with us today: What does responsibility mean in the present era? Does loco parentis still hold? What of the rights of students? In what does teacher responsibility consist? Can student autonomy be reconciled with market accountability? To what extent can responsibility of or for students be linked to 'care of the self' and 'care for others'? And, most importantly, to what extent, if any, can teachers be held accountable for the actions of their students?
