    Content: Gestützt auf sein Forschungsprojekt "Selfish Brain" (vgl. "Das egoistische Gehirn", ID-G 14/11) und basierend auf der Auswertung internationaler Studien vermittelt Peters zusammen mit dem Wissenschaftsjournalisten Sebastian Junge verständlich, plausibel und geradezu spannend zu lesen die Zusammenhänge zwischen Übergewicht, Stress und Gesundheitsrisiken. Er weist nach, dass in stressvoller Umgebung dicke Menschen bessere Überlebenschancen haben als dünne. Übergewicht sieht er als eine Folge von psychosozialem Stress, wobei es ein sinnvoller Überlebensmechanismus des Gehirns ist, für seine vorrangige Versorgung eine erhöhte Nahrungsaufnahme durchzusetzen. Er erörtert auch die Folgen bariatrischer Operationen (z.B. Magenverkleinerung) auf das Stresssystem und die Problematik, dass dicke Kinder massiv unter Abnehmdruck gesetzt werden. Um sein Stresssystem wieder in ein gesundes Gleichgewicht zu bringen, empfiehlt er achtsamkeitsbasierte kognitive Therapie. Ein Buch, das einen Anstoß zum Umdenken gibt.
