    Inhalt: In der amerikanischen Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik können Präsidenten beim Einsatz militärischer Gewalt zumeist auf einen vom Kongress nicht eingeschränkten Handlungsspielraum hoffen. Ausgehend von einer liberalen Theorieperspektive argumentiert die Studie, dass dafür auch eine am amerikanischen Exzeptionalismus ausgerichtete Identitätsrhetorik des Präsidenten verantwortlich ist, die Kongressmitglieder rhetorisch in die Ecke drängen und Kritik unterdrücken kann. Eine qualitative Untersuchung der Interventionsdiskurse während der Interventionen im Kosovo 1999, dem Irak-Krieg ab 2003 und der Intervention in Libyen 2011 zeigt, dass Kongressmitglieder vom Gebrauch ihrer verfassungsrechtlichen Kriegsvollmachten zurückschrecken, wenn ihnen geeignete Vetomöglichkeiten fehlen.
    Inhalt: In US military intervention policy, presidents can usually benefit from substantial room for manoeuvre, which is not called into question by Congress and its members. Based on a domestic perspective of US foreign policy, this study argues that presidents deploy tropes of American exceptionalism and that such rhetoric conduces to congressional deference by setting the terms of the debate and silencing prospective criticism. Three qualitative case studies of the military interventions and their respective discourses in Kosovo in 1999, Iraq as from 2003 and Libya in 2011 show that members of Congress defer to presidential warmongering when they are left without access to a societally sustainable rebuttal.

    Inhalt: Diese Studie erforscht die Diffusion von „morality policies“ in den US-Bundesstaaten mittels u.a. statistischer Ereigniszeitanalyse und zeigt, dass das Ausmaß in dem Politikdiffusion stattfindet, in Abhängigkeit vom „morality policy“ Grad variiert. Die Bereitschaft, aus der zeitlich vorhergehenden Verabschiedung von Moralpolitiken in anderen Bundesstaaten mit ähnlichen moralischen Werten zu lernen nimmt mit abnehmenden Moralpolitikcharakteristiken zu. Als Folge davon steigt die Stärke des Diffusionseffektes auf die Politikverabschiedungswahrscheinlichkeit mit abnehmenden Moralpolitikcharakteristiken. Bei weniger hervorstechenden, technisch komplexeren Moralpolitiken wird auch Information von ideologisch unähnlichen Staaten herangezogen.
    Inhalt: Through event history analysis and seemingly unrelated estimations, this study investigates the way in which diffusion of state-level legislation in the USA changes according to the varying degrees of morality policy characteristics it displays. The author finds that the magnitude of diffusion increases when policies reflect fewer characteristics of morality policy. Moreover, policies with high moral content diffuse when preceded by a bounded-learning process, information about which is heavily drawn from polities with similar moral attributes; learning about legislation with moderate and minimal characteristics of morality policy not only occurs selectively, but information is also retrieved from ideologically dissimilar polities, too.
