"Der Film begibt sich auf die Spuren von Wissenschaftlern, die es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht haben, die Erde zu beobachten – wie Olaf Trieschmann, der mit Satelliten die Meere überwacht, oder Elisabeth Schöpfer, die analysiert, wie sich Flüchtlingslager entwickeln. Mithilfe von Satellitendaten sagen Wissenschaftler außerdem für eine der größten landwirtschaftlichen Regionen der Welt, die amerikanischen Great Plains, Wasserknappheit voraus. In diesem Gebiet, das die gesamte Welt mit Mais und Soja versorgt, sollen Farmer Wasser sparen – doch kaum einer möchte bislang auf seine Erträge verzichten. Bestimmt also der Welthandel, welche wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse Gehör finden und welche nicht? Wem gehören die Erkenntnisse, die aus solchen Daten gewonnen werden?
