    Content: TON-E Die Washington National Opera präsentiert Blue, eine zeitgenössische Oper über Rassismus in den heutigen USA, mit einem Libretto von Tazewell Thompson und der Musik von Jeanine Tesori. Blue erzählt die tragische Geschichte eines afroamerikanischen Polizeibeamten, dessen Sohn während einer Demonstration von einem Kollegen getötet wird. Das Stück, das stark auf die Black-Lives-Matter-Bewegung anspielt, ist dank seiner intimen und vielschichtigen Darstellung des afroamerikanischen Familienlebens auf der Opernbühne gleichermaßen bahnbrechend. In historischer und musikalischer Hinsicht erzählt Blue auf mitfühlende Weise eine Geschichte, die für viele von uns gleichermaßen schmerzhaft und identifizierbar ist. Die Music Critics Association of America kürte Blue zur "Besten neuen Oper" des Jahres 2020, während die Financial Times die Oper als "eine außergewöhnlich starke neue Oper über die Rassenfrage in Amerika" lobte und Tesoris Musik als "eklektisch, aber sicher, voller Schönheit und Eloquenz" bezeichnete. Das Stück wird von einer exzellenten Sängerbesetzung gesungen, darunter Kenneth Kellogg als Vater, Briana Hunter als Mutter und Aaron Crouch als Sohn, während das Orchester der Washington National Opera von dem aufstrebenden Dirigenten Roderick Cox geleitet wird.
