Inhalt: War die deutsche Ordnungspolizei noch vor dem Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkrieges auch als Truppe für das infanteristische Gefecht geplant? Wie sahen dann die tatsächlichen Einsätze während des Krieges aus und können die Ordnungspolizisten im besetzten Europa und der Sowjetunion noch als normale Gesetzeshüter angesehen werden? Bisher wurde der Einsatz der deutschen Polizeieinheiten in den besetzten Gebieten vor allem im Zusammenhang mit Massenerschiessungen und meist auf die Jahre 1941 und 1942 beschränkt betrachtet. Mit dem Fortschreiten der Kampfhandlungen verschoben sich die Aufträge allerdings klar in Richtung von militärischen Einsätzen gegen Partisanen und sogar reguläre feindliche Truppen. Die vorliegende Arbeit versteht sich als Beitrag zur Nachvollziehung der theoretischen Einsatzplanung der Ordnungspolizei vor und während des Krieges und des praktischen Einsatzes von Polizeieinheiten und –verbänden. Die ausgewerteten Quellen veranschaulichen zudem eine starke Auswirkung der Gefechtserfahrungen auf Organisationsstrukturen und Ausbildungsrichtlinien.

Inhalt: Ancient religions are definitely complex systems of gods, which resist our understanding. Divine names provide fundamental keys to gain access to the multiples ways gods were conceived, characterized, and organized. Among the names given to the gods many of them refer to spaces: cities, landscapes, sanctuaries, houses, cosmic elements. They reflect mental maps which need to be explored in order to gain new knowledge on both the structure of the pantheons and the human agency in the cultic dimension. By considering the intersection between naming and mapping, this book opens up new perspectives on how tradition and innovation, appropriation and creation play a role in the making of polytheistic and monotheistic religions.Far from being confined to sanctuaries, in fact, gods dwell in human environments in multiple ways. They move into imaginary spaces and explore the cosmos. By proposing a new and interdiciplinary angle of approach, which involves texts, images, spatial and archeaeological data, this book sheds light on ritual practices and representations of gods in the whole Mediterranean, from Italy to Mesopotamia, from Greece to North Africa and Egypt. Inhalt: Verlagsinfo: Acht Jahre nach dem Sturz der Taliban ist von Sicherheit und Frieden in Afghanistan weniger denn je zu spüren. 2001 entsandte die Welt Soldaten, um das Land wieder zu stabilisieren. Für Deutschland ist der Militäreinsatz am Hindukusch die derzeit größte Operation außerhalb der eigenen Grenzen. Berlin betont stets seine Bereitschaft zum Neuaufbau des Landes, verfängt sich aber zusehends in einem gewaltigen Selbstbetrug. Denn noch immer erwecken Bundesregierung, Volksvertreter und Generäle den Eindruck, die Bundeswehr sei als Aufbauhelfer nach Zentralasien entsandt worden. Tatsächlich führt sie aber Krieg: gegen die Taliban, gegen islamistischen Terror und gegen den Zerfall einer ganzen Region. Diese "heuchlerische Interpretation" des Mandats der Vereinten Nationen, wie Stefan Kornelius den Bundeswehreinsatz bezeichnet, "steht einer realistischen Wahrnehmung Afghanistans im Weg und gefährdet gar die Soldaten". Von Anfang an krankte der deutsche Einsatz daran, dass er nicht ernst genommen wurde. Überdies könnte die Bundeswehr wirksamer agieren: Die restriktiven Einsatzregeln lassen eine effektive Wiederaufbauhilfe gar nicht zu.

Inhalt: Sport during Cold War has recently begun to be studied in more depth. Some scholars have edited a book about the US and Soviet sport diplomacy and show ow the government of these two countries have used sport during this period, notably as a tool of "soft power" during the Olympic games. Our goal is to continue in this direction and to focus more on the sport field as a place of exchanges during the Cold War. Regarding this point, our aim is to show that there were events "beyond boycotts"many and that unknown connections existed inside sport. Morevoer, many actors were involved in these exchanges. Thus, it is important not only to focus on the action of States, but also on private actors (international sporting bodies and journalists), considering that they acted around sport (an "apolitic" field) as it was tool to maintain links between the two blocs. Our project offers a good opportunity for young scholars to present original research based on new materials (notably the use of institutional or personals archives). Morevoer, it is also a step forward with a view to conduct research within a global history paradigm, one that is still underused in sport academic fields

Inhalt: In einer Mischform aus Reportage und Erzählung betrachtet der Autor das Leben zweier bedeutender Juristen. Er geht zurück zu den Anfängen des internationalen Strafrechts, spürt seiner Familiengeschichte nach und schreibt vom Holocaust. Rezension: Sands ist ein angesehener und streitbarer Professor für Internationales Recht. Im vorliegenden Buch (mehrfach preisgekrönte englische Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 2016) geht er zurück an die Anfänge der internationalen Strafgerichtsbarkeit, zeichnet die Lebenswege nach der Juristen Hersch Lauterpacht und Raphael Lemkin (Schöpfer des Begriffs "Genozid") und deren Antipode, dem NS-Chefjuristen Hans Frank. Es gibt autobiografische Bezüge Sands', denn Teile seiner Familie wurden von den Nationalsozialisten im damaligen Lemberg ermordet. Wie in einer Mischung aus Erzählung und Reportage schildert Sands von seinen Begegnungen und Nachforschungen, die ihn in mehrere Länder führten. Mit nüchternem Blick, selten mit direkter Rede, aus der Ich-Perspektive schreibt er von den historischen Ereignissen in der heutigen Ukraine. Er arbeitet sich vor bis zum Nürnberger Hauptkriegsverbrecherprozess. Im Epilog stellt Sands die Entwicklung der internationalen Strafgerichtsbarkeit dar.
