    Series Statement: Debutantes
Content: "Think of the White Gloves like the Junior League—by way of Skull and Bones... Reluctant debutante Sawyer Taft joined Southern high society for one reason and one reason alone: to identify and locate her biological father. But the answers Sawyer found during her debutante year only left her with more questions and one potentially life-ruining secret. When her cousin Lily ropes her into pledging a mysterious, elite, and all-female secret society called the White Gloves, Sawyer soon discovers that someone in the group's ranks may have the answers she's looking for. Things are looking up... until Sawyer and the White Gloves make a disturbing discover near the family's summer home—and uncover a twisted secret, decades in the making. No one is quite who they seem to be in this twisty, soapy, gasp-inducing sequel to Jennifer Lynn Barnes' unputdownable Little White Lies."
Content: Biographisches: " Jennifer Lynn Barnes has written more than a dozen acclaimed young-adult novels, including The Naturals series and The Inheritance Games . A former debutante herself, she is a Fulbright Scholar with advanced degrees in psychology, psychiatry, and cognitive science who received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2012. She is currently a professor of psychology and professional writing at the University of Oklahoma. She invites you to visit her online at www.jenniferlynnbarnes.com or follow her on Twitter @jenlynnbarnes." Rezension(2): "〈a href=http://www.kirkusreviews.com target=blank〉〈img src=https://images.contentreserve.com/kirkus_logo.png alt=Kirkus border=0 /〉〈/a〉: September 1, 2019 Newly minted Southern deb Sawyer Taft is invited to compete for a spot in a secret society called the White Gloves in the sequel to Little White Lies (2018). It's been a few months since former auto mechanic Sawyer signed an agreement with her grandmother Lillian to participate in debutante season in exchange for a college education and the truth about her real father. Sawyer now knows her father's identity, but revealing the truth could be explosive. She treasures her friendship with her cousin Lily and would like to spend some quality time over the summer with charming bad boy outsider Nick. However, an exclusive White Gloves invite provides a chance to investigate the fate of her mother's friend Ana Gutierrez since Victoria, who's running the show, shares Ana's last name. Ana, along with Sawyer's mother, was part of a pregnancy pact 20 years ago, but Ana disappeared without a trace. When Sawyer and the initiates stumble upon human bones during a White Gloves initiation, rumors fly. Could the bones be Ana's? Soon, Sawyer unearths more than bones: Blackmail, lies, and treachery simmer just below the surface of the most placid of Southern smiles, and tantalizing glimpses into the past are woven in with Sawyer's wry narration. Most characters are assumed white,Victoria is Latinx. A focus on sisterhood and more than a few whiplash-inducing twists propel this smart and scandalous tale. Content: " A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out. Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive. "
Content: Biographisches: " Jennifer Lynn Barnes has written several acclaimed young adult novels. She has advanced degrees in psychology, psychiatry, and cognitive science. " Rezension(2): "〈a href=http://www.publishersweekly.com target=blank〉〈img src=https://images.contentreserve.com/pw_logo.png alt=Publisher's Weekly border=0 /〉〈/a〉: Starred review from July 27, 2020 When high school junior Avery Grambs learns that the violent, domineering boyfriend of Libby, her half-sister and legal guardian, will be sharing their apartment, she moves into her car. Then Avery is summoned to attend the will reading of billionaire and complete stranger Tobias Hawthorne. Avery and Libby travel from Connecticut to Texas, where they are stunned to learn that Tobias left the bulk of his estate to Avery. To inherit, she must spend a year living in Tobias’s labyrinthine mansion with his two furious daughters, who think she is a con-woman, and his four brilliant, hypercompetitive grandsons—Nash, 25,Grayson, 19,Jameson, 18,and Xander, 16—who believe she is their puzzle-obsessed grandfather’s final riddle. As Avery gets swept up in the boys’ quest for answers, she starts to feel like she belongs—until someone on the grounds tries to kill her. Tony trappings and a boldly drawn, predominantly white cast complement the delightfully soapy plot of this strong, Knives Out –esque series opener from Barnes ( Little White Lies ). The denouement underwhelms, but an abundance of cryptic clues and tempestuous love triangles provides ample enjoyment. Ages 12–up. Agent: Elizabeth Harding, Curtis Brown. "
