Inhalt: The Andamanese were the indigenous hunters and gatherers of the Andaman Islands. Comprising thirteen distinct ethnic groups at the beginning of the twentieth century, by late in the century only nineteen individuals remained. Thirteen documents have been included in the AZ02 Andamans file. These documents fall roughly into two groups on the basis of field dates and tribes studied. The earliest group contains the two major monographs in the file, Radcliffe-Brown and Man, plus a third monograph, Temple. These works focus primarily on the Andamanese tribes of Great Andaman. Man is the first important study; it was written by a government official who observed the Andamanese during the period 1869-1880 when their social and cultural life was still largely intact. Man's data pertain mainly to the Aka-Bea tribe of South Andaman, with a coverage of general ethnography, physical anthropology, and language. Temple was a government official who was in the area at the turn of the century (1901). His data are primarily on demography and geography, but include some ethnography and linguistics, drawing heavily on Man's work for the latter. Radcliffe-Brown is by a distinguished social anthropologist who presents a functional analysis of social organization, religio-magical beliefs and practices, and mythology. Unfortunately, by the time of Radcliffe-Brown's field work in 1906-1908, the Andamanese were at an advanced stage of population decline and socio-cultural disintegration, so he was unable to get a clear, detailed picture of the traditional society in operation. Radcliffe-Brown studied mainly the North Andaman tribes, plus the A-Pucikwar and Akar-Bale of the southern group. By the time the remaining nine documents were written, based on field work in the late 1940s, early 1950s, and later, the Andamanese were nearly extinct, and thus much of the material in these works deal primarily with the Ongees (Onges) and Jarwas (Jarawas)

Inhalt: Southeast Asian Affairs, of which there are now twenty-three in the series, is an annual on the political, economic and social trends and developments in Southeast Asia. First published in 1974, Southeast Asian Affairs represented then, as it still does now, a unique collection of analyses on contemporary Southeast Asia by contributors primarily from the region and reflecting the viewpoint of the region. Designed to be easily readable yet in-depth, informative yet analytical, issue-focused yet providing a background, the annual has come to be a useful tool for all serious students, academics, diplomats, senior executives, journalists and publicists who seek to understand the dynamics of Southeast Asian developments. Southeast Asian Affairs 1996, like the previous volumes, is divided into two parts. The first part consists of articles that provide the regional and ASEAN overviews. The second focuses on internal developments in each of the ten Southeast Asian countries. There is a state-of-the-nation analysis as well as articles devoted to a salient issue or significant theme for selected countries.

Inhalt: Microbial utilization of the inexhuaustible lignocellulosic biomass for the production of industrial chemicals, liquid fuels, protein-rich feed and food, and preparation of cellulose polymers, is an attractive approach to help meet energy and food demands. Whilst biomass has served as substrate in microbial processes for the production of alchololic beverages for a long time, it is only recently that broader applications of this material have been envisaged. Hemicellulose-derived sugars have many potential uses in the production of industrial chemicals and solvents. Considerable developments h

Serie: Handbook of low and high dielectric constant materials and their applications ; v. 2
Inhalt: Recent developments in microelectronics technologies have created a great demand for interlayer dielectric materials with a very low dielectric constant. They will play a crucial role in the future generation of IC devices (VLSI/UISI and high speed IC packaging). Considerable efforts have been made to develop new low as well as high dielectric constant materials for applications in electronics industries. Besides achieving either low or high dielectric constants, other materials' properties such as good processability, high mechanical strength, high thermal and environmental stability, low the
