Paints a picture of musical life in Berlin in the first half of the 19th c., using as a basis a study of the contemporary press. Deals with impresarios and various types of organizations as well as repertoire, programming, and audience reception. Shows performance sites, if known, on a city map (opera and theater programs are not discussed). It is clear that the 'music business' in this period made of Berlin a true Musikstadt.
