Der Kampf gegen diesen übermächtigen Feind macht aus dem verunsicherten Heimkind Achim, der ständig in der Angst lebt, etwas falsch zu machen, einen selbstbewussten Jungen, der schließlich versteht, dass er um seiner selbst willen von seinen Adoptiveltern geliebt wird. Erneut wählt die Autorin das Fantasygenre, um ein schwieriges Thema (hier: Trauer und Loslassen) den Lesern nahezubringen.
