Content: Energy has been a crucial element for human beings and sustainable development. The issues of global warming and non-green energy have yet to be resolved. This book is a collection of twelve articles that provide strong evidence for the success of artificial intelligence deployment in energy research, particularly research devoted to non-intrusive load monitoring, network, and grid, as well as other emerging topics. The presented artificial intelligence algorithms may provide insight into how to apply similar approaches, subject to fine-tuning and customization, to other unexplored energy research. The ultimate goal is to fully apply artificial intelligence to the energy sector. This book may serve as a guide for professionals, researchers, and data scientists—namely, how to share opinions and exchange ideas so as to facilitate a better fusion of energy, academic, and industry research, and improve in the quality of people's daily life activities.

Content: This text will be replaced by This book approaches its subject matter in a way that provides Lyapunov function analysis and event-triggered design methods for switched dynamic systems in terms of sampled-data control, hysteresis switching control, and fault-tolerant control. This book presents several novel design methods on event-triggered control of switched linear systems, in which the events inclusively consist of not only switching itself but events occurring as the switched systems evolve. The features of our approaches lie in threefold: i) In the framework of sampled-data control, a bond between the sampling period and the average dwell time of the asynchronous switched linear neutral systems is revealed, with which stabilization conditions are derived for periodic sampling and event-triggered sampling mechanisms, respectively. ii) New event-triggered control strategies are proposed for switched linear systems and switched delay systems including switched neutral systems. The Zeno phenomenon can be excluded easily since the constant threshold can guarantee the existence of minimum positive lower bound between two continuous sampling intervals. iii). Two new fault-tolerant control methods are presented for switched cascade systems, with structural uncertainties existing in both system matrices and input matrices of the linear subsystems, by using the average dwell-time techniques. The proposed control design works on both the switched systems with actuator faults and its nominal systems (i.e., without actuator faults) without necessarily changing any structures and/or parameters of the proposed controllers. This book presents several systematical analysis and design methods for event-triggered control of switched systems in terms of the Lyapunov-based stability. It is of great significance to theoretical research and practical applications for switched systems. The book provides a unified framework of sampled-data control, including periodic sampled-data control and event-triggered control, and fault-tolerant control of switched systems. It serves as a useful book for researchers and graduate students who are interested in knowing the state of the art of analysis and synthesis of switched systems. In addition, it is also a useful source of up-to-date design methods for researchers who study switched dynamic systems and graduate students of control theory and control engineering.

Content: The advent of Internet of Things offers a scalable and seamless connection of physical objects, including human beings and devices. This, along with artificial intelligence, has moved transportation towards becoming intelligent transportation. This book is a collection of eleven articles that have served as examples of the success of internet of things and artificial intelligence deployment in transportation research. Topics include collision avoidance for surface ships, indoor localization, vehicle authentication, traffic signal control, path-planning of unmanned ships, driver drowsiness and stress detection, vehicle density estimation, maritime vessel flow forecast, and vehicle license plate recognition. High-performance computing services have become more affordable in recent years, which triggered the adoption of deep-learning-based approaches to increase the performance standards of artificial intelligence models. Nevertheless, it has been pointed out by various researchers that traditional shallow-learning-based approaches usually have an advantage in applications with small datasets. The book can provide information to government officials, researchers, and practitioners. In each article, the authors have summarized the limitations of existing works and offered valuable information on future research directions.

Content: In Innovate to Dominate, Tai Ming Cheung offers insight into why, how, and whether China will overtake the United States to become the world's pre-eminent technological and security power. This examination of the means and ends of China's quest for techno-security supremacy is required reading for anyone looking for clues as to the long-term direction of the global order.  The techno-security domain, Cheung argues, is where national security, innovation, and economic development converge, and it has become the center of power and prosperity in the 21st Century. China's paramount leader Xi Jinping recognizes that effectively harnessing the complex interaction between security, innovation, and development is essential in enabling China to compete for global dominance.  Cheung offers a richly detailed account of how China is building a potent techno-security state. The book takes readers from the strategic vision guiding this transformation to the nuts-and-bolts of policy implementation. The state-led top-down mobilizational model that China is pursuing has been a winning formula so far, but the sternest test is ahead as China begins to compete head-to-head with the US and aims to surpass its arch-rival by mid-century if not sooner.  Innovate to Dominate is a timely and analytically rigorous examination of the key strategies guiding China's transformation of its capabilities in the national, technological, military, and security spheres and how this is taking place. The book authoritatively addresses a burning question being asked in capitals around the world: Can and, if so, when will China become the dominant global techno-security power?

Content: A masterpiece of Arabic love poetry in a new and complete English translationThe Translator of Desires, a collection of sixty-one love poems, is the lyric masterwork of Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi (1165-1240 CE), one of the most influential writers of classical Arabic and Islamic civilization. In this authoritative volume, Michael Sells presents the first complete English translation of this work in more than a century, complete with an introduction, commentary, and a new facing-page critical text of the original Arabic. While grounded in an expert command of the Arabic, this verse translation renders the poems into a natural, contemporary English that captures the stunning beauty and power of Ibn 'Arabi's poems in such lines as "A veiled gazelle's / an amazing sight, / her henna hinting, / eyelids squinting // A pasture between / breastbone and spine / Marvel, a garden / among the flames!"The introduction puts the poems in the context of the Arabic love poetry tradition, Ibn 'Arabi's life and times, his mystical thought, and his "romance" with Nizam, the young woman whom he presents as the inspiration for the volume-a relationship that has long fascinated readers. Other features, following the main text, include detailed notes and commentaries on each poem, translations of Ibn 'Arabi's important prefaces to the poems, a discussion of the sources used for the Arabic text, and a glossary.Bringing The Translator of Desires to life for contemporary English readers as never before, this promises to be the definitive volume of these fascinating and compelling poems for years to come
