Flowers, leaves, flowering trees - from small still lifes to fantastic paradise trees. The œuvre of the autodidact Séraphine Louis developed in an unusual way. Séraphine Louis painted because she believed that she had received the commission to do so from her guardian angel and the Virgin Mary. Thus - especially after the reencounter with Wilhelm Uhde in 1927 - more and more bizarre, vegetal forms and apocalyptic visions emerged. Körner and Wilkens give a historically well-founded account of the painter's life: from her birth in Arsy, through a 20-year stay in a monastery and her painting activity in Senlis, to her admission to a psychiatric clinic in 1932, where she died in 1942
