Die wirtschaftlichen Wachstumsraten Ostasiens zählen bereits seit Jahrzehnten zu den höchsten der Welt und es kann an der Rolle Asiens als Epizentrum der globalen Produktion kaum Zweifel geben. Die Ursache für dieses herausragende Wirtschaftswachstum besteht im Aufbau einer noch nicht dagewesenen Form der internationalen Arbeitsteilung, die ein bislang nicht gekanntes Maß an Produktionskosteneffizienz ermöglicht. -- Wertschöpfungsketten werden auf von ihrer Struktur her unterschiedliche Länder aufgeteilt und die so entstehenden Produktionsnetzwerke umfassen sowohl Standorte in Entwicklungsländern als auch in führenden Industrienationen. Die höchst unterschiedlichen lokalen Eigenschaften, welche von jedem einzelnen dieser Länder in diese Produktionsnetzwerke eingebracht werden, verschaffen Ostasien als Ganzes weltweit einzigartige Standortbedingungen. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der innerbetrieblichen Umsetzung dieser Vorteile von internationalen japanischen Unternehmen.
