In diesem opulent illustrierten Katalog zur Ausstellung im Jenisch-Haus (Museum für Kunst und Kultur an der Elbe ..., 5. Juni bis 16. Oktober 2005) - hier als schön ausgestattete Hardcoverausgabe - defilieren nicht nur 250 Jahre europäische Brautmode über den imaginären Laufsteg am faszinierten - voraussichtlich weiblichen - Betrachter vorbei. Ein Team aus Kunsthistorikerinnen, einer Textilfachfrau, einschlägig befassten Autorinnen und dem bekannten Modefotograf F.C. Gundlach stellt die Abbildungen in einen ausgesprochen informativen, spannend zu lesenden Kontext sowohl thematischer als auch chronologischer Aufsätze. Brautmode war immer - im Gegensatz zur traditionell stärker gebundenen Trauerkleidung - ein Spiegel des gerade herrschenden Geschmacks und Frauenbilds. Einst durchaus nicht weiß, zeitenweise etwas ins Abseits geraten, ist das exklusive Brautkleid auch heute noch der Traum vieler Frauen. Mit Ausnahme eines längeren Artikels in "Anziehungskräfte - Variété de la mode 1786-1986" (Hanser), ist Brautmode in den Mode- und Kostümgeschichten unterrepräsentiert.
