Ein kleines Samenkorn wird zum Drama für die Gartenbewohner! Seine Wurzeln dringen in die Erde und zerstören die Gänge der Ameisen. Sie wachsen weiter, bohren sich durch die Badezimmerdecke des Maulwurfs. Familie Maus muss zweimal umziehen, weil die um sich greifenden Wurzeln ihre Erdhöhle unbewohnbar machen. Auch der Wichtel, der überirdisch ein Häuschen hat, bekommt Schwierigkeiten: Die Pflanze nimmt ihm das Licht und die Haustür will nicht mehr aufgehen. Der Entschluss steht: Das Ding muss weg! Doch da greift Jakob ein. Jakob, so klein wie ein Käfer mit vier Beinchen, Flügeln und menschlichem Gesicht, will sie erhalten - als Schattenspender, Kletterbaum, Aussichtsturm und nicht zuletzt als Nahrungsquelle, denn was wächst an der Pflanze? Tomaten! Die Tiere arrangieren sich mit ihr, nutzen sie - und mögen sie sogar am Ende. Wie auch bei den 'Briefträger Maus'-Bilderbüchern der Autorin bestechen hier die einmaligen Illustrationen, auf denen es viele nette Details zu entdecken gibt. Aber auch die Message ist doch einfach toll: Sieh das Gute in allem und mach das Beste daraus! Unbedingt empfohlen. Inge Kliemt
