Abstract:
Cumyl peroxide vucanization of cis-1,4 polybutadiene with 2“3 per cent 1,2 addition was compared with that of natural rubber. The essential findings are: 1) In both rubbers, cumyl peroxide decomposed at exactly the same rate. 2) As shown earlier for natural rubber, the crosslinking reaction was over in polybutadiene when cumyl peroxide decomposition was complete. 3) Final crosslink density in polybutadiene decreased with increasing vulcanization temperatures. 4) Crosslinking yield in polybutadiene can be estimated simply by comparison with the crosslinking yield in natural rubber.
