Abstract:
The conflict between Europe and the United States, by Guy Berger Despite the "technical" aspects of the international money crisis created on August 15 1971 by the American decision to suspend the convertability of the dollar and terminated by the Washington agreement of December 19, the crisis, by the problems it raised and the manner in which it was solved was in fact a political one. For the first time since 1945 the economic interests of the United States and Europe appeared clearly divergent. Under cover of compromise Europe was once again obliged to give in to American demands and the solutions which have been found are precarious for they do nothing to solve the problems of the dollar and international monetary reform.
