Content: The modern world is moving towards sustainable development and furan is a key material in this transition. Furan is processed from furfural, which is an organic compound obtained from biomass feedstock. Thus, furan is a green and environmentally friendly material. It is used to produce pharmaceuticals, resin, agrochemicals, and lacquers. It is a key starting material for a variety of industries for the preparation of many useful products. This book presents comprehensive information on furan and its derivatives

    ISBN: 9781800647664 , 9781800647671
Content: This comparative anthology showcases the rich and mutually intertwined folklore of three ethno-religious communities from northern Iraq: Aramaic-speaking ('Syriac') Christians, Kurdish Muslims and-to a lesser extent-Aramaic-speaking Jews. The first volume contains several introductory chapters on language, folkore motifs and narrative style, followed by samples of glossed texts in each language variety. The second volume is the anthology proper, presenting folklore narratives in several distinct varieties of North-Eastern Neo-Aramaic and Northern and Central Kurdish. The stories are accompanied by English translations. The material includes different genres such as folktales, legends, fables and anecdotes, and is organised into seven thematic units. The folkloristic material of these three communities is shared to a large extent. The anthology is, therefore, a testament to the intimate and long-standing relations between these three ethno-religious communities-relations that existed in a multilingual environment centuries before the modern era of nationalism

Content: This volume brings together papers on topics relating to the transmission of the Hebrew Bible from Late Antiquity to the Early Modern period. We refer to this broadly in the title of the volume as the 'Masoretic Tradition'. The papers are innovative studies of a range of aspects of this Masoretic tradition at various periods, many of them presenting hitherto unstudied primary sources. They focus on traditions of vocalisation signs and accent signs, traditions of oral reading, traditions of Masoretic notes, as well as Rabbinic and exegetical texts. The contributors include established scholars of the field and early-career researchers

Content: The survival of plants under stressful environments requires the study of the mechanisms that help in reversing the adverse impacts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) excessively generated under these conditions. Understanding the mechanisms helps in adopting strategies to induce such mechanisms for the better acclimation of plants. These ROS, if not scavenged, cause damage of cellular components, including lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites, and, in extreme cases, even the death of cells in plants. Confronted with abiotic stress, there is an initial elevation in ROS that activates redox signaling to initiate defense in plants through the activation of antioxidant activity. The improvement in the capacity of antioxidant machinery is one of the essential strategies with which to develop tolerance and relieve the pressure of abiotic-stress-induced oxidative changes for the survival of plants. This reprint provides knowledge on the following aspects: Impact of abiotic stress factors and the response of antioxidant machinery to changing abiotic stress conditions, as well as strategies with which to strengthen antioxidant machinery for the survival of plants; Strategies to improve the tolerance mechanisms of plants against abiotic stress factors; Roles and the mechanisms of the plant signaling molecules/growth modifiers/mineral nutrients/hormones/other elicitors in relieving the impacts of abiotic stresses; The utilization of approaches such as genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, ionomics, and nutiomics to strengthen antioxidant machinery and make plant life easier under abiotic stress conditions

Content: In the United States, respiratory failure accounts for 1275 cases per 100,000 people. The etiology of respiratory failure can be diverse, encompassing obstructive and restrictive lung diseases, among others. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant surge in respiratory failure cases among patients admitted to hospitals, particularly those requiring intensive care. This book explores the pathophysiology of respiratory failure and insufficiency associated with COVID-19 illness as well as obstructive lung disease. It also delves into respiratory insufficiency stemming from liver disease and burns and discusses the role of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) in managing patients with respiratory insufficiency. This book is a useful resource for medical students, residents, physicians, and nurses alike
