Abstract:
As planícies de inundação são frequentemente conceituadas como corpos de sedimentos homogêneos que conectam os rios com suas respectivas bacias hidrográficas e amortecem impactos agrícolas. Isso levou a um viés geral dentro da comunidade hidrológica para a pesquisa em locais onde a planície de inundação é um canal claro para o fluxo de águas subterrâneas. Em regiões temperadas úmidas da Europa central, as planícies de inundação sofreram rápidas mudanças ambientais desde a última glaciação, produzindo intempéries significativas e sedimentos predominantemente finos e altamente estratificados de ladeiras e sedimentos de várzea. Essa arquitetura sedimentar heterogênea leva a ambiguidades conceituais na interpretação do funcionamento hidrogeológico das planícies de inundação, levantando assim a questão: as planícies de inundação agem como barreiras ou condutos para o fluxo de águas subterrâneas? Este estudo analisa a planície de inundação de Ammer, perto de Tübingen, no sudoeste da Alemanha, como uma planície de inundação de seção intermediária representativa em um clima temperado, onde a geologia regional é dominada por lamitos. Técnicas de caracterização e monitoramento geológico, geofísico e geoquímico foram combinadas para esclarecer a estrutura geológica interna como um controle-chave que modula a hidrologia da planície de inundação. Dois sistemas de água subterrânea parcialmente separados foram identificados: um corpo de cascalho no fundo dos sedimentos quaternários e um aquífero turfáceo confinado ao holoceno, separado por argilas de baixa permeabilidade. Apesar de o fluxo ser predominantemente ao longo do vale, as concentrações de sulfato nos aquíferos da planície de inundação mostraram evidências de uma forte conexão com a encosta com gesso, particularmente onde estão presentes sedimentos do vale tributário (por exemplo, leques aluviais). Os resultados de um balanço hídrico da planície de inundação sugerem que o material dos aquíferos nas encostas e nas planícies de inundação atue como uma barreira para a recarga das águas subterrâneas nas encostas, onde uma grande fração pode estar contornando o sistema local de águas subterrâneas nas planícies.
