Kurzfassung:
The physical and chemical properties of interfaces, adsorption layers, and liquids determine the retention time or the retention volume of a substance. The most important thermodynamic quantity which can be evaluated from a chromatogramm is the Gibbs energy Δ G of the retention process. Possible errors in the evaluation are discussed. ‐ Adsorption isotherms and absolute surface values can also be determined by means of a chromatographic technique. The characteristic parameters L, H s and I are defined, their dependence from Δ G is evaluated and some of their advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
