Abstract:
En noviembre de 1490 sale en Valencia la primera novela de caballerías, impresa en la Península Ibérica, Tirant lo Blanch ; la primera edición conocida del Amadís tardará todavía dieciocho años en aparecer ; con ella empieza la gran boga del género. Hasta 1521 Valencia se muestra muy dinámica, junto con otras pocas ciudades, en la publicación de novelas de caballerías. Pero los editores valencianos no quieren cargar con los riesgos de reediciones ; prefieren lo original buscando otros filones próximos como las novelas de caballerías a lo divino o las epopeyas. Los lectores de las novelas de caballerías se reclutan ante todo entre los nobles y los mercaderes ; los intelectuales las desdeñan y los lectores pobres no pueden comprarlas.
