Die Linksparteien in den Ländern der Europäischen Union kommen nicht in die Offensive: Linke Parteiprojekte machen im Europaparlament lediglich 5,5% bzw. 41 Abgeordnete aus. Starken Parteien in Griechenland, Spanien und Portugal und aufsteigenden Parteien in Belgien, Slowenien und Kroatien stehen schwache Parteien in Österreich und Italien gegenüber. In Frankreich und Deutschland stagniert die Linke, während sie in Nordeuropa moderate Zuwächse erzielt. In ihren Länderanalysen fragen sich daher die Autor*innen: Wie sind die Parteien in der Gesellschaft verankert? Wo liegen ihre Schwierigkeiten, wo die Potenziale? Wie verbinden sie nationale und europäische Politik? Beabsichtigt ist, die Diversität der Linken, ihre traditionellen und neuen politischen Programme, strategischen Ausrichtungen und Organisationsformen darzustellen. Ein besonderer Blick wird dabei auf zukunftsweisende Projekte der europäischen Linksparteien gelenkt. Die Autor*innen wollen zum besseren Verständnis der Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeit der europäischen Linken beitragen und die Suche nach gemeinsamen europäischen Projekten voranbringen.
