Abstract:
The impact of a newspaper policy af printing the names of individuals who shoplift, drink and drive, and/ or refuse the breathalyzer was examined. Interrupted Time Series Analysis was used to analyze the number of offenders arrested pre- and postadoption of the policy. Analyses indicated that following the publication policy shoplifting incidents decreased; however, the policy had no effect on either the number of impaired drivers arrested or offenders refusing the breathalyzer.
