Dieser Band der Reihe "Beobachten und Verstehen" (weitere in dieser Nr.) beschäftigt sich anschaulich und verständlich mit Wildblumen und einigen wegen ihrer Schönheit kultivierten Blumen z.B. Narzissen. Reihentypisch geht es im 1. Teil anhand von zahlreichen Beispielen um das Grundwissen über Blumen z.B. Blütenformen, Pflanzenteile und deren Aufgaben, Bestimmungsmerkmale. Aufgelockert wird das Ganze durch einen Blumenkalender, Anleitungen zur Aussaat und Aufzucht, Nutzen und Verwendung von Blumen, Naturschutzaspekte usw. Ähnlichkeiten und Überschneidungen mit dem Band "Bäume" sind unübersehbar (Blumen pressen, Blätter abpausen). Der 2. Teil behandelt wichtige Lebensräume der Wildblumen (inkl. Küste und Gebirge) mit ihren standortspezifischen Eigenschaften und die Anpassung der dort wachsenden Blumen. Mit kleinem Bestimmungsbuch für fast 50 Arten, nach Blütenfarben geordnet, mit Hinweisen auf Schutzstatus und Giftigkeit. Kindgerechte Zeichnungen wechseln sich ab mit detailgetreuen Abbildungen und stimmungsvollen Fotos. Neben "Mein erstes 'Was blüht denn da?'" (BA 7/05) gerne empfohlen.
