Abstract Der Band zu Anna Louisa Karsch, der 1981 im Märkischen Dichtergarten erschien, gab zentrale Impulse für die neuere Beschäftigung mit der Autorin. Der Beitrag fragt nach dem Kontext dieser Wiederentdeckung, indem er Karschs Funktion für
die ,andere‘ Literaturgeschichte von Günter de Bruyn und Gerhard Wolf untersucht. Gezeigt wird, dass das fehlende Verständnis für die soziale ,,Außenseiterin“ (Wolf) im 18. Jahrhundert zur Kritik am optimistischen Aufklärungsdiskurs in der DDR dient, die sich komplementär zur Aufwertung der Romantik in der Reihe verhält.
