    Abstract: To determine the effects of feeding rate and feeding frequency on growth performance, digestive enzymes activities, and intestine development of Megalobrama pellegrini in a replicated flow-through system, we conducted a 42-day experiment. We designed three feeding rates (5%, 6.5%, and 8% body weight/day, BW/d) and two feeding frequencies (2 and 3 meals/day; m/d) in this experiment. Fish (0.57 ± 0.01 g) were distributed into 18 tanks with 70 individuals and fed with a commercial diet (33% crude protein, 4% total lipid). Results showed that the highest weight gain was found in the fish fed diet with 6.5% BW/day and 3 m/d, which was significantly higher in comparison with that of other feeding rate groups (5% BW/d and 6.5% BW/d) at both feeding frequency (2 and 3 m/d). Fish growth performance was significantly affected by the feeding rate but not by the feeding frequency. The significantly higher feed conversion ratio (FCR) was recorded at 8% BW/d with 3 m/d than other treatments. Furthermore, fish fed diet at 8% BW/d with 2 m/d had significantly high mortality during the middle of this trial. In contrast, we found that other fish groups’ survival rates were higher (over 90%), and there were no significant differences among them. We saw a significantly lower whole-body crude protein, lipid, and intestinal digestive enzymes in fish fed at a ratio of 8% BW/d with 3 m/d compared with other treatments. Moreover, our findings revealed intestinal villi fusion and exfoliation in this group compared with other treatments. In conclusion, the Megalobrama pellegrini received a feeding rate of 6.5% BW/d, and a feeding frequency of 2 m/d may be the optimum feeding regime for raising Megalobrama pellegrini in a flow-through system.

    Abstract: Complement (C) is a serum protein with immunity-related functions and enzymatic activities. It can induce inflammatory responses and antibody formation following activation by substances such as pathogens. Moreover, it is a crucial molecule in the congenital immune defense system. Complement manifests earlier than immunoglobulin in the evolutionary process of fish’s immune system. Therefore, the complement system of fish is vital for congenital and acquired immunities. A complement system is a polymolecule system comprising more than 30 soluble proteins, membrane-bound proteins, and complement receptors. It can be activated through three pathways for immunoregulation, the clearance of the immune complex, etc. The liver primarily produces the fish complement C3, which is a significant component of the complement system of fishes. C3 is the hub of three activation pathways. Research works concerning the structure, generation process, expression, and functions of C3 in fishes are reviewed in this study.

    Abstract: In the present study, a pathogenic strain, JL, was isolated from Pengze crucian carp (Carassius auratus) eggs suffering from saprolegniosis. It was initially determined as Saprolegnia sp. strain JL. Saprolegnia species have been implicated for significant fungal contamination, involving both living and dead fish and their eggs. A phylogenetic tree was constructed using the maximum parsimony method. The tree shows that the JL strain was closely related to Saprolegnia parasitica isolate SAP171, isolated from Salmo trutta suffering from saprolegniasis in Laukaa, Finland. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 20 Chinese herbs was screened. Pseudolarix kaempferi Gord. (Pinaceae) was the most effective in inhibiting growth of the bacteria and was chosen for further trial. Significant protective efficacy of 52.63% and 73.68% was obtained against the JL strain in Pengze crucian carp eggs at P. kaempferi concentrations of 12.5 mg/ml and 25.0 mg/ml, respectively.

    Abstract: The effects of dietary lipid and carbohydrate, and their interaction, on growth performance and body composition of juvenileblunt snout bream Megalobrama amblycephala were investigated. Fish were fed one of eight isonitrogenous (32% crude protein) diets containing 4% or 7% lipids and 25%, 30%, 35%, or 40% carbohydrate for nine weeks. Weight gain, feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio, and nitrogen and energy retention improved significantly as the dietary lipid level increased, while there were no significant differences in these parameters within the tested range of carbohydrate levels. The interaction between the lipid and carbohydrate levels had positive effects on weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and protein efficiency ratio when fish were fed increased carbohydrates and 7% lipid. The intraperitoneal fat ratio and liver lipid content were significantly affected by the dietary carbohydrate level and reached maximum values in fish fed 40% and 30% carbohydrates, respectively. Further, the dietary lipid and carbohydrate levels significantly affected body moisture and lipid content while there were no significant differences in body protein, ash, energy, or muscle and liver glycogen contents. Results indicate that the optimal dietary carbohydrate content for juvenile M. amblycephala is approximately 30% when dietary lipid is 4%. However, juvenile M. amblycephala can efficiently utilize 40% dietary carbohydrate with a dietary lipid content of 7%.

    Abstract: A new indoleglycerol, designated as arecine ( 1 ), and twenty‐three known diketopiperazines 2 – 24 were isolated from the endophytic fungus Diaporthe arecae associated with mangrove Kandelia obovate . Structures of all secondary metabolites 1 – 24 were identified on the basis of their spectrometric data, especially the nuclear magnetic resonance, optical rotation, and mass data. The absolute stereochemistry of compound 1 was determined by comparing its experimental electronic circular dichroism spectrum to those of in silico generated. Moreover, the 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopic data of isolated diketopiperazines 3 – 24 were measured in dimethyl sulfoxide‐ d 6 and presented in Table 2 for a convenient comparison. Pharmacological study showed cordysinin A ( 2 ) possessed mild anti‐angiogenic activity, which suppressed tube formation with an IC 50 value of 15.1±0.2 μg/mL.
