Immer wieder in diesem Jahrzehnt ist Klingenberg nach Tibet gereist, spürbar von diesem Land in den Bann gezogen. Gegenüber den meisten Reiseberichten hebt sich dieser dadurch positiv ab, daß der Verfasser sich Zeit lassen und Ereignisse und Gelegenheiten auf sich zukommen (oder auch sie ungenutzt vorbeigehen) lassen konnte. Er besuchte bekannte und auch sehr abgelegene Orte, ertrug aber auch mit Gelassenheit, wenn Pläne sich nicht realisierten ließen. Der Erzählfluß geht nicht nach chronologischen oder geographischen Gesichtspunkten. Der Autor sucht vielmehr, je öfter er nach Tibet kommt, numinose Orte auf, sei es der vielbesuchte Kailash oder der abgelegene Orakelsee. Dabei gewinnt er (ohne etwa irgendwelche mystischen Erlebnisse zu berichten) mehr und mehr den Eindruck, sich auf einer (eher überkonfessionellen) Pilgerreise zu befinden. (Jürgen Tacke)
