Abstract:
Qu’est ce qui permet aux scientifiques d’accumuler des fonds de tiers ? La littérature se penche sur les mécanismes d’action du financement externe de la recherche et met en lumière la dimension réglementaire du mécanisme d’allocation compétitif, sans tenir compte des processus d’apprentissage individuels. De l’autre côté, la recherche sur l’évaluation par les pairs (peer review) prend certes en compte les processus d’apprentissage individuels, mais elle ne permet pas de comprendre comment ces effets d’apprentissage s’accumulent sur le parcours d’une carrière scientifique. Cette étude mobilise des entretiens narratifs avec des scientifiques ayant obtenus des fonds de tiers á répétition dans les sciences politiques et la chimie organique. L’article examine, premièrement, les formes et les conditions du processus d’apprentissage. Deuxièmement, l’article explique pourquoi certains candidats arrivent á mieux gérer les aléas de l’appel á projet. L’une des principales conclusions de cette étude est que les candidats qui réussissent à accumuler des fonds de tiers apprennent, avant tout, à donner du sens á leurs échecs.
