    Serie: Alternative Perspectives in Criminology
Inhalt: A pioneering book on prisons in West Africa, Colonial Systems of Control: Criminal Justice in Nigeria is the first comprehensive presentation of life inside a West African prison. Chapters by prisoners inside Kirikiri maximum security prison in Lagos, Nigeria are published alongside chapters by scholars and activists. While prisoners document the daily realities and struggles of life inside a Nigerian prison, scholar and human rights activist Viviane Saleh-Hanna provides historical, political, and academic contexts and analyses of the penal system in Nigeria. The European penal models and institutions imported to Nigeria during colonialism are exposed as intrinsically incoherent with the community-based conflict-resolution principles of most African social structures and justice models. This book presents the realities of imprisonment in Nigeria while contextualizing the colonial legacies that have resulted in the inhumane brutalities that are endured on a daily basis

Inhalt: Daniel Barenboim conducts the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra for a historic concert in the West Bank. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra was founded in 1999 by the Argentine-Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim and the Palestinian-American academic Edward Said with the ambition to promote understanding between Israelis and Palestinians and pave the way for a peaceful and fair solution of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Every year, eighty musicians from Israel and the neighbouring Arab States (Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinian territories) gather under Daniel Barenboim's baton. The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra's concert in Ramallah in 2005 was a highly iconic event: for the first time, the orchestra performed in the West Bank. For this historic event, Daniel Barenboim and his orchestra performed Mozart's Sinfonia concertante KV 297b, Beethoven's 5th Symphony and Elgar's Enigma Variations

Inhalt: This thesis paper will describe and examine the financial governance in the transnational grassroots Chinese non-governmental organizations(NGOs).The study will describe and examine the financial governance's framework and the financial reports & chart of accounts of the Chinese NGOs.In addition, the study will bring out an overall picture of the nature and extent of financial govemance's failure they Chinese NGOs have, and puts forward certain recommendations as a way out for promoting good financial governance in these Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).〈br〉 The study will be done using qualitative questioners that had been filled by the NGOs'employees;mid & high management levels to better understand the daily basis "technical"procedures they use and the wide picture behind these policies &procedures.〈br〉 This paper will focus on the transnational grassroots Chinese NGOs operate within China mainland;the research's sample will be out of the Chinese NGOs with no limitation on the NGOs'location, type or classification, the sector they are working in or the supporting donors.〈br〉 Seeing as the NGOs concept was adopted not so long in China, this research topic is relatively new especially because it examines the financial governance of the transnational grassroots NGOs operate in China mainland, and uses the qualitative research methodology to bring out an overall picture of the nature and extent of financial governance failure the Chinese NGOs have, and puts forward certain recommendations as a way out for promoting good financial governance in the Chinese NGOs;which shall help these NGOs to achieve the long-term sustainability.〈br〉 The main portion of the grassroots Chinese NGOs funds and support is from the government itself, and for these NGOs to achieve long-term sustainability;they need to be independent and relay more on the Chinese citizens(individuals, families and firms)rather than the government or the international foundations, but that is not easy given that the governmental regulations related to NGOs do not promote a good financial governance and the saver shortfall in the stat's agencies personnel who is responsible about following up and reviewing the NGOs work especially their financial governance. So,the only way out to the long-term sustainability is to achieve and maintain the good financial governance internally by the NGOs themselües through their internal policies and procedures.
