Inhalt: This second volume of the AIIB Yearbook of International Law examines the role of international organizations in promoting effective dispute resolution. It is divided into five parts to reflect a series of overarching themes and relationships. Firstly, international arbitration’s effectiveness and affinity with multilateral institutions. Second, international organizations as proponents of the norms of dispute resolution. Third, the dispute resolution mandates of international organizations. Fourth, the role of dispute resolution and economic development. Inhalt: The founder of the Mawlawiyya order of dervishes, Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī (d. 672/1273) is the most celebrated and widely quoted mystical poet of the Persianate world. Born in Balkh in 604/1207, he was still a child when his father, a preacher, emigrated westwards with his family, moving to Malaṭya, Sivas, Akshehir, Larende and, finally, Konya. It was in Konya that Rūmī, who had also received a regular education, met the people who would give his life a decisive turn towards mysticism: first, his father's former pupil Sayyid Burhān al-Dīn Muḥaqqiq (d. 637/1239-40) and then, most of all, the celebrated mystic Shams al-Dīn Tabrīzī (d. 645/1247). Rūmī's Mathnawi-yi maʿnawī is a didactic poem inspired by his favourite student Ḥusām al-Dīn Čelebi (d. 683/1284). Composed in six fascicles ( daftar ), it took several years to complete. The edition printed here is an enhanced version of the one by Nicholson, with Nicholson's introductory essays and notes translated into Persian. 4 vols; volume 3.

By the end of 2017, 751 species (including 765 subspecies) were known to occur in Suriname. Inhalt: Dem biblischen Seeungeheuer Leviathan, das in Hobbes gleichnamigem Hauptwerk für die Allmacht des absolutistischen Staates steht, stellt der Autor in dieser Schrift, die aufgrund eines königlichen Druckverbots erst posthum erscheinen konnte, das Landungeheuer Behemoth aus der jüdischen Mythologie gegenüber. The Long Parliament bestand im Gegensatz zum Short Parliament, das nur 22 Tage, beginnend am 13. April 1640, tagte, offiziell von 1640 bis 1660. Dies ist die Periode, die Hobbes in seinem Behemoth behandelt. Während der Leviathan systematisch erarbeitet, welche Bedingungen für einen funktionierenden Staat erfüllt sein müssen, diskutiert der Behemoth die Gründe für den durch Aufruhr und Bürgerkrieg herbeigeführten Verfall des englischen Staates. Behemoth or the Long Parliament steht als Chiffre für Anarchie und Auflösung staatlicher Gewalt. Titel und Inhalt der Schrift scheinen das bewusst gewählte Gegenbild zum konstruktiven Staatsentwurf des Leviathan zu bilden, und in der Tat sind beide Werke in engem Zusammenhang zu lesen. Der Behemoth ist in Dialogform verfasst. Hobbes geht es darum, die Gründe zu verstehen, die zur Auflösung des englischen Gemeinwesens geführt haben, aber er verfolgt auch Fragen nach einer erfolgreichen politischen Erziehung, die seiner Ansicht nach vom Souverän geleistet werden muss. In seinem einleitenden Essay beleuchtet der Herausgeber neben der verwickelten Editionsgeschichte ausführlich den Gedankengang und den historischen und philosophischen Hintergrund dieses wichtigen Hobbes’schen Werks.

Inhalt: Taking as its exemplum the use of images in judicial decisions, this article argues that the ratio decidendi of legal precedent should be supplemented with the imago decidendi , the figure or depiction that motivates judgment. Drawing upon the history of legal humanism, and particularly the tradition of juristic emblems, it is argued that an adequate understanding of case law rules and decisions requires attention to the imagery that conceives and propels the reasoned deliberation that follows. To adequately apprehend the transmission of law in a digital age requires acknowledging that images think differently, that the ambulation of the eye in the image is very different to the linear glance of the text.

The Norwegian-Scottish Frontier c. 1260-1470 , Ian Peter Grohse examines social and political interactions in Orkney, a Norwegian-held province with long and intimate ties to the Scottish mainland. Commonly portrayed as the epicentre of political tension between Norwegian and Scottish fronts, Orkney appears here as a medium for diplomacy between monarchies and as an avenue for interface and cooperation between neighbouring communities. Removed from the national heartlands of Scandinavia and Britain, Orcadians fostered a distinctly local identity that, although rooted in Norwegian law and civic organization, featured a unique cultural accent engendered through Scottish immigration. This study of Orcadian experiences encourages greater appreciation of the peaceful dimensions of pre-modern European frontiers.

Yet the accompanying rise of gay 'normality' has been disconcerting for activists with radical sympathies. Global in scope and drawing on a wide range of feminist, anti-racist and queer scholarship and analysis, Warped: Gay Normality and Queer Anti-Capitalism shows how the successive 'same-sex formations' of the past century and a half, corresponding to different phases of capitalist development, have led both to the emergence of today's 'homonormativity' and 'homonationalism' and to ongoing queer resistance. Inhalt: On 11 September 1973, the Chilean Chief of the Armed Forces Augusto Pinochet overthrew the Popular Unity government of Salvador Allende and installed a military dictatorship. Yet this is a book not of parties or ideologies but public history. It focuses on the memorials and memorialisers at seven sites of torture, extermination, and disappearance in Santiago, engaging with worldwide debates about why and how deeds of violence inflicted by the state on its own citizens should be remembered, and by whom. The sites investigated -- including the infamous National Stadium -- are among the most iconic of more than 1,000 such sites throughout the country. The study grants a glimpse of the depth of feeling that survivors and the families of the detained-disappeared and the politically executed bring to each of the sites. The book traces their struggle to memorialise each one, and so unfolds their idealism and hope, courage and frustration, their hatred, excitement, resentment, sadness, fear, division and disillusionment.
