Series Statement: Höfische Kultur interdisziplinär. Schriften und Materialien des Rudolstädter Arbeitskreises zur Residenzkultur
Content: The production of glass was one of the high technologies of the early modern period. At a heat of around 1500 degrees, mixtures of sand, lime and vegetable, wood or potash were transformed into greenish, crystal-clear or colorful marvels in the glassworks of Europe. Its aesthetic and material properties-transparency, workability, and durability-made glass a coveted material that was still the preserve of the elite in the 16th century and did not become an affordable mass product until the second half of the 18th century. The volume Glass in the Early Modern Period pursues an interdisciplinary approach. It takes its starting point in the conditions of glass production in early modern glassworks, the high consumption of resources, and the resulting social conflicts. The volume focuses on the various historical forms of use, glass as an object of collection, and its allegorical meaning in painting. At the same time, the volume deals with the analysis and preservation of glass objects from a scientific and conservation perspective and with the presentation of baroque glass from a museum perspective. In all of this, a close connection to the court culture of the European nobility is apparent, who acted as pioneers, patrons and, not least, buyers, users and collectors of the glass objects. In this way, many of the luxury objects have been preserved to this day.

Content: In the twenty-first century, it is necessary for Asia to step up and assume a larger leadership role on the global stage, commensurate with its economic weight and interests. Eighty-eight percent of the increase in the numbers of the middle class in the next five years will take place in Asia, underscoring the reality that global business and leadership will be colored in significant ways by Asian values, approaches and strategies. This book explores how this may impact our view and conceptual approach to the notion of global leadership. The contributors to this collection explore and examine the concept of global Asian leadership and outcome implications at the societal, corporate and policy-making level. They argue that global leaders will increasingly focus on specific needs, values and strategies that are uniquely Asian, which emphasizes the reality that we most likely will have to redefine our notion of global leadership. This comprehensive study of the integration of Asian and global leadership will benefit those employed in the corporate, government and educational sectors as well as a broader audience with an interest in leadership, policy-making and economics.

Content: In the past 25 years or more, political observers have diagnosed a crisis of the sovereign nation state and the erosion of state sovereignty through supranational institutions and the global mobility of capital, goods, information and labour. This edition of the European History Yearbook seeks to use "cultural sovereignty" as a heuristic concept to provide new views on these developments since the beginning of the 20th century.

Content: This volume explores how right-wing populists use religion as a cultural identity marker for minorities, while remaining distanced from Christian values, beliefs, and institutions. Based on interviews with key figures in the USA and Europe, this book asks how religiously diverse societies can confront the rise of a secular, populist, and identitarian right.

Content: The volume addresses two concepts underexplored in migration ethics: political stability and solidarity. In his introductory article, Michael Blake argues that the Rawlsian notion of public reason cannot address threats to stability arising from authoritarian movements. In their contributions, Raissa Wihby Ventura, Bodi Wang, Susanne Mantel, Wolfram Cremer, Dimitrios Efthymiou, Esma Baycan Herzog, Gottfried Schweiger, Alberto Pirni, Costanza Porro, Christine Straehle, Corinna Mieth and Thorben Knobloch explore the issue of migration in novel ways. They discuss the relation of stability to identity and cohesion, how to define duties towards migrants and fellowcitizens and the conceptualization of anti-immigration backlashes. The volume concludes with a reply by Michael Blake
