Series Statement: Studien und Texte zur Geistesgeschichte de Mittelalters, Bd. 111
Content: Complementing the growing list of editions and translations which have appeared in the series Aristoteles Semitico-Latinus , this is the first critical edition of Adam of Bockenfield's commentary on the pseudo-Aristotelian treatise on plants. The leading Arts master at Oxford in the middle decades of the thirteenth century, Adam crafted a comprehensive and highly organized commentary, which enjoyed wide circulation on the continent. Professor Long's introduction also explores the relationship between Adam's commentary and the gloss that was the established classroom text at Oxford.

Content: Volume 8 in the series, appearing in two parts, A and B, deals with the systematics of cyst nematodes of the subfamily Heteroderinae. Cyst nematodes are important pathogens causing extensive damage and significant yield loss to many crops in both temperate and tropical regions. Part A presents summarised information on various aspects of morphology, biology, ecology, pathology, biogeography, control measures and diagnostics of these nematodes. Molecular diagnostic tables and comprehensive tabular and dichotomous keys for species identification, together with descriptions of protocols for extraction, light and electron microscopy studies, and molecular diagnostics are also included. The taxonomic section of part A provides diagnoses for six genera, viz ., Globodera , Punctodera , Cactodera , Dolichodera , Betulodera and Paradolichodera , and includes descriptions and morphometrics of 30 valid species. The work is illustrated by 101 drawings and photographs The genus Heterodera is mainly covered in part B, complete descriptions and morphometrics of the 80 known valid species being provided and the species illustrated by 159 line drawings and photographs Identification of the species using morphological and molecular techniques is also covered. Each part includes an extensive bibliography.

Series Statement: Studies in the history of Christian traditions, v. 169
Content: The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) has become a leader in the dialogue between Jews and Catholics as was manifested in the role that the Jesuit Cardinal Augustin Bea played in the adoption by the Second Vatican Council of Nostra Aetate, the charter for that new relationship. Still the encounters between Jesuits and Jews were often characterized by animosity and this historical record made them a tragic couple, related but estranged. This volume is the first examination of the complex interactions between Jesuits and Jews from the early modern period in Europe and Asia through the twentieth century where special attention is focused on the historical context of the Holocaust.

Content: Conducting Educational Research: A Primer for Teachers and Administrators is designed to provide the step-wise, content-specific information masters students must possess to design, conduct, and disseminate a qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods classroom or school research study. The text will help school professionals to see both the value of being life-long critical consumers of educational research and the merit of using research in helping them to become teacher leaders and/or change agents in their own professional settings. Specifically, the text would provide master level students with: ●The background they need to see the importance of educational research in their daily professional lives ●Instruction in all aspects of a typical five-chapter research design (introduction/literature review/methodology/results/conclusion, discussion, implications) ●The tools needed to locate and critically review published educational research ●Instruction on common qualitative methodologies ●Instruction on the types of quantitative methodologies that master level candidates would be most likely to use ●Knowledge of the importance of being intelligent consumers of existing research ●Ways to engage the student in a reflection plan for the future.

Content: International Maritime Security Law by James Kraska and Raul Pedrozo defines an emerging interdisciplinary field of law and policy comprised of norms, legal regimes, and rules to address today's hybrid threats to the global order of the oceans. Worldwide shipping commerce, fishing fleets, pleasure craft, and coastal states are exposed to the menace of offshore terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, piracy, smuggling, robbery, marine insurgency and anti-access threats. Land-based institutions and maritime constabulary forces operate within an increasingly integrated network that blends elements of humanitarian law, human rights law, criminal law, and law of the sea, with inspection regimes, commercial enterprise, and marine safety and environmental stewardship. The new authorities fuse together a global maritime partnership among states, international organizations and commercial interests to protect the maritime commons from the most dangerous risks and hazards.

Series Statement: Mnemosyne, bibliotheca classica Batava. Supplementum. History and archaeology of classical antiquity
Content: Providing a comprehensive examination of the capacity of ancient ships and seafarers to cope with seasonally changing sea conditions, this book draws on a wide range of ancient literary sources while also taking account of modern weather records, hydrological data, and recent archaeological discoveries. Taking a fresh look at the various ways in which seasonality affected maritime transport across the sea-lanes of the ancient world, this book offers new perspectives on the nature of seaborne trade, naval warfare and piratical operations. The result is a volume that questions many long-held scholarly assumptions concerning the strength and seaworthiness of ancient vessels, as well as the abilities of Greek and Roman mariners, to regularly undertake voyages across hazardous stretches of sea.

    Uniform Title: Correspondence. Selections
Content: This book is based on the recent discovery of the personal papers of Kichisaburo Nomura - Japanese admiral, one-time foreign minister, pre-Pearl Harbor ambassador to the United States, and "spiritual godfather" of postwar Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force. The volume reproduces Nomura's occupation-era correspondence with his American friends and associates, including Navy Secretary Daniel Kimball, SCAP Political Advisor William Sebald, former ambassadors William Castle and Joseph Grew, Army and Navy Journal owner John Callan O'Laughlin, as well as Admirals William Pratt, Arleigh Burke, Charles Turner Joy, Ralph Oftsie, and Harold Martin. The correspondence is extraordinarily revealing, and provides rich insights into domestic conditions in occupied Japan, U.S. policies toward occupied Japan, the Cold War in Asia, and Japan's eventual rearmament. In this way, the book enables readers to confront for themselves a hitherto largely neglected attempt at defining and cementing the post-WWII Japanese-U.S. partnership.

Content: This volume consists of essays that pose fundamental questions about the relation between verbal and visual hermeneutics, especially as relates to biblical culture. Exegesis, as theologians and historians of art, religion, and literature, have come increasingly to acknowledge, was neither solely textual nor aniconic; on the contrary, following from Scripture itself, which is replete with verbal images and rhetorical figures, exegesis has traditionally utilized visual devices of all kinds. In turn, visual exegesis, since it concerns the most authoritative of texts, supplied a template for the interpretation of other kinds of significant text by means of images. Seen in this light, exegetical images prove crucial to understanding how meaning was constituted visually, not only in the sacred sphere but also in the secular. Content: The medieval Mediterranean world has inspired a rich variety of archaeological studies aimed at trying to piece together its past. This volume presents seven case studies that reveal the complexities of and possible solutions for exploring various areas of the Mediterranean basin. Individually, they offer models of interdisciplinary study that move beyond the disciplinary boundaries of archaeology to integrate evidence from other fields ranging from history to town planning. As a whole, they provide the only collection of studies of their kind for the medieval Mediterraean. They thus provide readers with a view of a field that is vibrant, nuanced, and utilizes a methodological approach that is capable of greatly increasing our knowledge of the medieval Mediterranean world. Contributors are Tasha Vorderstrasse, Jon van Leuven, Cédric Devais, Michelle Hobart, Giulia Annalinda Neglia, Johnny De Meulemeester, and Sauro Gelichi.
