Content: Volume 8 in the series, appearing in two parts, A and B, deals with the systematics of cyst nematodes of the subfamily Heteroderinae. Cyst nematodes are important pathogens causing extensive damage and significant yield loss to many crops in both temperate and tropical regions. Part A presents summarised information on various aspects of morphology, biology, ecology, pathology, biogeography, control measures and diagnostics of these nematodes. Molecular diagnostic tables and comprehensive tabular and dichotomous keys for species identification, together with descriptions of protocols for extraction, light and electron microscopy studies, and molecular diagnostics are also included. The taxonomic section of part A provides diagnoses for six genera, viz ., Globodera , Punctodera , Cactodera , Dolichodera , Betulodera and Paradolichodera , and includes descriptions and morphometrics of 30 valid species. The work is illustrated by 101 drawings and photographs The genus Heterodera is mainly covered in part B, complete descriptions and morphometrics of the 80 known valid species being provided and the species illustrated by 159 line drawings and photographs Identification of the species using morphological and molecular techniques is also covered. Each part includes an extensive bibliography.

Content: William James’ 1906/07 gehaltenen Vorlesungen Pragmatism. A new name for some old ways of thinking gehören zu den einflussreichsten und wichtigsten Texten des amerikanischen Pragmatismus. Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt, können sie als Programmschrift einer Philosophie gelten, die zur umfassenden Neubegründung des Denkens aus einer Theorie der Tätigkeit des Menschen ansetzt. In Auseinandersetzung mit zentralen Problemen der abendländischen Philosophie (Substanzproblem, Teleologie, Willensfreiheit, Wahrheitsbegriff ) präsentiert James in acht Vorträgen, die sich nicht nur an ein akademisches Publikum richten, eine allgemeinverständliche Einführung in die pragmatistische Denkweise. Insbesondere der Wahrheitsbegriff, den James gegenüber dem von Peirce formulierten noch verschärft, führte in der Folge zu Missverständnissen und heftigen Diskussionen, in deren Verlauf man James 'Hemdsärmeligkeit' vorwarf und den amerikanischen Pragmatismus als 'Philosophie des Dollars' diskreditierte. Denn als Wahrheitskriterium schlägt James die ›Verifizierbarkeit‹ als laufenden Prozess der Bewahrheitung vor und nicht die statische Entsprechung von Vorstellung und Gegenstand. ›Wahrheit‹ selbst sei praktisches Geltendmachen eines Erkenntnisanspruchs: eine Vorstellung ›ist‹ nicht wahr, sie ›wird‹ wahr. James’ prozessorientiertes und pluralistisches Denken gewann im 20. Jahrhundert großen Einfluss, bis hin zur analytischen und postmodernen Philosophie. Content: What is the relation between our selfhood and appearing? Our embodiment positions us in the world, situating us as an object among its visible objects. Yet, by opening and shutting our eyes, we can make the visible world appear and disappear-a fact that convinces us that the world is in us. Thus, we have to assert with Merleau-Ponty that we are in the world that is in us: the two are intertwined. Author James Mensch employs the insights of Jan Patočka's asubjective phenomenology to understand this double relationship of being-in. Content: The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) has become a leader in the dialogue between Jews and Catholics as was manifested in the role that the Jesuit Cardinal Augustin Bea played in the adoption by the Second Vatican Council of Nostra Aetate, the charter for that new relationship. Still the encounters between Jesuits and Jews were often characterized by animosity and this historical record made them a tragic couple, related but estranged. Content: The Frau Professor Hilprecht Collection of Babylonian Antiquities at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena houses one of the major European collections of incantation bowls. Forty bowls bear texts written in the Jewish, Manichaean Syriac or Mandaic scripts, and most of the rest (some twenty-five objects) in the Pahlavi script or in various pseudoscripts. The present volume comprises new editions of the Aramaic (and Hebrew) bowl texts based on high-resolution photographs taken by the authors, together with brief descriptions and photographs of the remaining material. New readings are often supported with close-up photographs. The volume is intended to serve as a basis for further study of magic in late Antiquity and of the Late Eastern Aramaic dialects in which the texts were composed.
