Content: This collection consists of of 94 English language documents and one translation from the German. While the time coverage is vast (from 800 B.C. to the 1980s) and there is good historical depth, the focus is primarily on rural Greek society in the latter half of the 20th century, particularly in the mainland regions of Boeotia, Piraeus, Kokinia, Zagor, Epiros, and central Macedonia and the major Aegean or Greek islands of Crete, Rhodes, Lesbos, and the Cyclades (Tinos, Anafi). Also included are comprehensive studies on the Sarakatsani nomads of the Zagori, Epirus, Thessaly, and central Greece regions. Several documents deal with the city of Athens

Content: "Recognizing that ideas about emotions vary historically as well as culturally, Kennedy draws from recent critical work on emotions by historians, literary scholars, philosophers, and psychologists, as well as comparative studies of the emotions by cultural anthropologists. She contends that ideas about women's anger in early modern England are both like and unlike those in twentieth-century America. Although women's anger is often dismissed as irrational in both eras, for instance, in the early modern era women were thought to become angry more often and more easily than men due to their inherent physiological, intellectual, and moral inferiority." "Kennedy demonstrates the importance of class and race as factors affecting anger's legitimacy and its forms of expression. She shows how early modern assumptions about women's anger can help to create or exaggerate other differences among women. Her close scrutiny of anger against female inferiority emphasizes the crucial role of emotions in the construction of self-worth and identity."--BOOK JACKET.

Content: This book is divided into five sections dealing with various fundamental issues in current research: attention, information processing and eye movement control; the role of phonology in reading; syntax and discourse processing and computational models and simulations. Control and measurement of eye movements form a prominent theme in the book. A full understanding of the where and when of eye movement control is a prerequisite of any complete theory of reading, since it is precisely at this point that perceptual and cognitive processes interact. Amongst the 'hot topics' included are the rel

Series Statement: The Morgan Kaufmann series in evolutionary computation
Content: Traditional methods for creating intelligent computational systems haveprivileged private ""internal"" cognitive and computational processes. Incontrast, Swarm Intelligence argues that humanintelligence derives from the interactions of individuals in a social worldand further, that this model of intelligence can be effectively applied toartificially intelligent systems. The authors first present the foundations ofthis new approach through an extensive review of the critical literature insocial psychology, cognitive science, and evolutionary computation. Th
