Content: Digital audio, video, images, and documents are flying through cyberspace to their respective owners. Unfortunately, along the way, individuals may choose to intervene and take this content for themselves. Digital watermarking and steganography technology greatly reduces the instances of this by limiting or eliminating the ability of third parties to decipher the content that he has taken. The many techiniques of digital watermarking (embedding a code) and steganography (hiding information) continue to evolve as applications that necessitate them do the same. The authors of this second edition

Content: DNA replication, the process of copying one double stranded DNA molecule to form two identical copies, is highly conserved at the mechanistic level across evolution. Interesting in its own right as a fascinating feat of biochemical regulation and coordination, DNA replication is at the heart of modern advances in molecular biology. An understanding of the process at both the biological and chemical level is essential to developing new techniques in molecular biology. Insights into the process at the molecular level provide opportunities to modulate and intervene in replication. Rapidly dividin

Series Statement: The Morgan Kaufmann series in data management systems
Content: Fuzzy Modeling and Genetic Algorithms for Data Mining and Exploration is a handbook for analysts, engineers, and managers involved in developing data mining models in business and government. As you'll discover, fuzzy systems are extraordinarily valuable tools for representing and manipulating all kinds of data, and genetic algorithms and evolutionary programming techniques drawn from biology provide the most effective means for designing and tuning these systems. You don't need a background in fuzzy modeling or genetic algorithms to benefit, for this book provides it, along with

Content: Chile is one of the major players in the world fishing scene. But during the past fifty years, Chile has had to face issues of over-investment, sharp declines in catch levels, disputes among stakeholders, fleet downsizing, and aquaculture diseases, among others. This report describes the challenging and complex learning process that the Chilean fisheries and aquaculture sector has undergone and the evolution of its policies and management systems. Governance of the industrial, artisanal and aquaculture industries has followed different paths of policy development and current management reflects the particular pressures confronting each segment of the sector. And policy evolution continues, with a range of initiatives underway to meet the current challenges. The Chilean state has been one of the main forces behind these developments, laying the foundation for a strong and robust fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Content: One of the major challenges facing librarians and curators of digital repositories are the innovative 'born digital' documents created by scholars in the humanities. These documents range from the parsed corpora created by linguists to traditional reference information presented in electronic databases, to rich, multi-media hypertexts combining audio, still and moving video and text, and many other sorts of material. Too often, librarians think of electronic resources solely as providing access to subscription databases. This book encourages librarians to think holistically of the life cycle o

Content: Wanda Noakes, the new headteacher at Daubeney Primary in Hackney, north London, returns after her first half term break with renewed enthusiasm. Her plan to involve parents more works well and they come up with ideas to celebrate Black History Month. Ten weeks into her leadership she feels pupils and parents are on side but there is still a lot to do to establish a good rapport with staff. The allocation of teaching and learning responsibilities is an issue and her two deputies feel she is introducing too many changes too quickly. Wanda disagrees. She feels the changes are important for the pupils. She also has to tell them that she will only be able to afford one deputy by 2008. Wanda was aware that parts of her job would be tough but feels the qualification for new heads helped her prepare. As Christmas approaches Wanda receives good news about her children's centre and gets some positive feedback from staff. Her advice for new heads? Grit your teeth and have lots of early nights.
