In der Reihe "Little People, Big Dreams" (zuletzt "Amelia Earhart", ID-A 13/19) erscheint mit der Geschichte von Coco Chanel ein weiteres Porträt einer starken, beeindruckenden Frau. Wie die Halbwaise aus der französischen Provinz in einem Kloster zur Näherin ausgebildet wird und mit ihrer Idee von Mode, die Frauen nicht in ein Korsett zwängt, schließlich die Pariser Modewelt erobert, erzählt Ma Isabel Sánchez Vegara in einer kurzen, kindgerechten Geschichte. Die puppenhaften Figuren mit den großen Köpfen, mit denen Ana Albero Cocos Werdegang illustriert hat, passen zwar nicht so ganz zum französischen Chic, sind aber reihentypisch und dadurch legitimiert. Annemarie van Haeringen ließ sich in "Coco und das kleine Schwarze" (ID-B 26/14) ebenfalls von der Lebensgeschichte der Modeikone inspirieren. Ein Blick in das Leben dieser ungewöhnlichen Frau lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, so wie auch in das der übrigen Persönlichkeiten, die in der Reihe vorgestellt werden. Gerne zur Fortsetzung empfohlen.
