Alles, was Rosa Luxemburg wollte, war ein einfaches, glückliches Leben. Doch die gesellschaftlichen Zustände um 1900 fordern den Gerechtigkeitssinn der Pazifistin heraus. Sie mischt sich ein ins politische Geschehen, verfasst Schriften und avanciert zur populärsten Verfechterin eines humanen Sozialismus. Die Kompromisslosigkeit der couragierten Revolutionärin passt nicht ins Parteikonzept der SPD, nach ihrem Ausschluss bleiben Rosa nur noch ihre Mitstreiter Clara Zetkin und Karl Liebknecht. Gefängnisaufenthalte, Prozesse und politische Unruhen bestimmen ihre letzten Lebensjahre. 1919 werden die KPD-Begründer Luxemburg und Liebknecht von der Reichswehr heimtückisch ermordet. Margarethe von Trottas einfühlsames Porträt der radikalen Friedenskämpferin ist nicht nur ein Stück deutscher Zeitgeschichte, sondern widmet sich auch den Gefühlen und Motiven seiner Titelheldin. Das bewegende Biopic wurde mit dem Filmband in Gold sowie dem FBW-Prädikat "Besonders wertvoll" ausgezeichnet. Barbara Sukowa bekam für ihre eindrucksvolle Leistung das Filmband in Gold und die Goldene Palme als Beste Darstellerin. (arthaus)
