Das Leben der Frida Kahlo gehört zu den farbigsten Stoffen, die ein Biograf wählen kann. Die Autorin dieser Kahlo-Biografie hat aus den historischen Fakten eine einführende Monografie verfasst, die gleichermassen von Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen unterhaltsam zu lesen ist. Dagmar Feghelm (zuletzt BA 7/05) führt - kunsthistorisch versiert - in Leben und Werk der Künstlerin ein und lässt die Dargestellte durch Selbstzeugnisse zu Wort kommen (ohne Quellenangaben!). Mit ihrem farbigen Erzählstil wird das bewegte Leben der Künstlerin vor den Augen des Lesers sichtbar und es entsteht ein Mosaik einer vielschichtigen und widersprüchlichen Persönlichkeit (s. auch "Frida Kahlo - Bekenntnisse", ID 24/09). Deutlich wird auch, dass sich Kahlos Leben und Beziehungen zeitlebens auf ihre Kreativität ausgewirkt haben. Der handliche Band ist mit farbigen Abbildungen, einer Werkübersicht (in Auswahl) mit Zeitleiste versehen und weckt Interesse, mehr über die Künstlerin zu erfahren.
