According to the author, a "special" Sino-German relationship can be observed as having developed since the early 1990s. It is characterized by a pragmatism almost unhampered by such problems as human rights, Taiwan or Tibet. The resulting closeness has been criticized both inside and outside Germany. The author examines development of Sino-German relationship in a Cold War context, economic relations, and the treatment of human rights, Taiwan and Tibet after 1989. (DÜI-Sen)
